Resumes and salary advice

At some point during your application you will be asked about your salary expectations, so it’s up to you to determine this. Pitch too high, and you might be cutting yourself out of an interview, too low, and you might undermine your application.

The following websites carry a selection of salary surveys:-

• www.michaelpage.com.au  (free)
• www.hays.com.au (free)
• www.salaryzone.com.au (free)
• www.payscale.com.au (charges required)

Although these sites are useful, their analysis can be a little generic.

Another popular choice is to talk with a recruitment agency. Try to use more than one recruiter as opinions can differ.  If your main focus for finding work is purely financially motivated, then you will need to provide a very solid case to increase your base salary by more than 15 -20%.

Remember, your market worth is only a matter of what a prospective employer is willing to pay for your services, not what “you” think they should pay you.
