Did you know: many jobs are listed multiple times by different agencies. There's not much you can do to identify duplicates, but if you think your application might have been put forward by another recruiters, it might be worth calling the agency to check.
Tip: Daily automated job updates are better than weekly as the recruitment market can move very fast and this can sometimes gives you the advantage.
Don't forget newspapers and professional journals:
The recruitment market is still pro-newspaper advertising, and sometimes the quality of jobs being advertised in the paper can be better than the quantity listed online. That's because the cost of advertising in print is far greater.
Position listings in newspapers often undergo
a more rigorous short listing strategy than that
of their online partners. Many of the
advertisements are what we call "client paid"
and are therefore funded by an employer direct
(even if it's listed by a recruitment agency).
Tip: Be sure to place you application within one or two working days of the advertisement being listed regardless of the deadline. Also, employers and recruiters can be more open in fielding telephone enquiries when a job is listed in the newspaper than when it is listed online.
Consider other online options:
Social networking sites have their place in the employment market with many employers and recruiters now using sites such as LinkedIn and FaceBook. You have to be listed and signed up to make use of these

Likewise, candidates who have the attitude "I don't care what I do" will gain little return in a market where it is expected that you know your market.
